A terrific and talented group of colleagues and I have begun to meet twice a month to give each other feedback on our presentations. All of us are experienced presenters who want to talk about speaking with people for whom we have much respect. (Many of us found that Toastmasters did not meet our needs; for right now, we call our group unToastmsters.)
We have been recommending to each other our favorite books on speaking and presenting. As a memory aid to myself, I decided to list my recommendations in a blog post. Any titles you would suggest that I add to my list?
The books I have found most valuable:
- Resonate: Present Visual Stories that Transform Audiences
- Made to Stick: Why Some Ideas Survive and Others Die
- Opening the Mind's Eye: How Images and Language Teach Us How To See
- Presentation Zen: Simple Ideas on Presentation Design and Delivery
- Don't Be Such a Scientist: Talking Substance in an Age of Style
- Whoever Tells the Best Story Wins: How to Use Your Own Stories to Communicate with Power and Impact
- Clear and to the Point : 8 Psychological Principles for Compelling PowerPoint Presentations
- Brain Rules: 12 Principles for Surviving and Thriving at Work, Home, and School
Books I have not read yet but plan to soon. After I read each, it will either move to the above list or disappear from this blog post.
- The Presentation Secrets of Steve Jobs: How to Be Insanely Great in Front of Any Audience
- Doug Stevenson's Story Theater Method
- Blah Blah Blah: What To Do When Words Don't Work
