Great Books

Julie A. Fleming

I listened to the whole interview. It sounds very interesting. Many of his neurological explanations for human behavior were things that I'd never considered, but that made sense to me (such as when he discussed how our brain interprets interpersonal pain the same as it does physical pain).

He also briefly touched on something I've read elsewhere about how our initial reaction is to shield ourself from pain (both physical and mental/psychological), which causes more problems than just facing the issue and working through it. For this reason, I always tell clients that when you find yourself procrastinating on something, it's best to just start and power through it. The longer you put it off, the harder it is to get started, and once you actually do start, it's usually much easier than expected to finish.

All in all, very interesting. I'll have to check out his book.
